From the basic position you can turn the board 180 degrees without tacking or jibing.  The right-hand set of pictures show a windsurfing board turned through the wind with the windsurfer staying in the basic position.  Note that the windsurfer turns the board with her feet and during this maneuver she stays in the basic position.
